What is an All School Read?
Each year a thought provoking book is selected for all SPSV students, faculty and staff to read over the summer months as part of our new All School Read program. The purpose of the program is to increase the amount of reading done by our students and to engage our entire campus in a common discussion regarding pertinent social topics.
Summer 2019 Selected Book
This summer we are reading Tattoos on the Heart by Fr. Greg Boyle. Fr. Boyle, a Catholic, Jesuit priest and former Pastor in the Los Angeles Diocese, has worked in ministry for 30 years and earned national recognition for his efforts, including receiving the California Peace Prize. He is founder of Homeboy Industries, the world’s largest gang intervention program responsible for over 3,000 tattoo removals and successful recovery programs. Tattoos on the Heart shares stories of lives transformed through compassion and hope.
In order to participate our student families need to:
- Purchase Tattoos on the Heart. Available on Amazon for under $11 or at your local bookstore or library.
- Read the book before August 9th, 2019.
- Homework: Thoughtfully answer the following questions and bring them to school on the first day of class.
It is our hope that this book will initiate an exciting year of discussion and reflection across all levels of our community. We encourage parents and family to read along with us and engage in the discussion with your students. Homework Assignment
